10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not exciting for most of us. But it has to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve hoarded throughout the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your house?
The outside of your house could use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the appearance of your house in Union City, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save you money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the best time of year to clean your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris collect during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not cleaned.
Plus, pests and animals are searching for places to build homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and restoring them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows won’t give you too much of a problem, but second and third floor windows are tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring chore, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can pressure clean your house, patio furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t stain your house, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem strange since you’ll be driving on it, but actually, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washing company will do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer, so it’s easy to forget about it during the winter when you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in bad shape the first time you go onto it in spring.
Detergent and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you need to consider a more aggressive option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are common home roof problems in Union City. While you’re cleaning the outside of your house, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you’ll have to use a different process than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is typically obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your house. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your home’s roof.
The ideal process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and let it be. This will kill all organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your house is probably what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will instantly improve your day, and will inspire you to spend a lot more time outside.
Clean your front porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and think about painting it for a bright look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You’ll be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent time to organize whatever you’ll need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment must all have a specific place outside your house – a place that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the outside of your house so much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a huge impact on the look of your house.
Eliminate weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you will be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family ill.
Wet it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.
You could probably finish these projects after a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Union City Pressure Washing offers professional residential exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
