METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a warm and sticky mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper under the gum. Next we move the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is already smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use high pressure because that could ruin the surface of the concrete!
